The Black Eyed Peas extended their unprecedented run at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart to 21 weeks on Thursday, while Miley Cyrus kept partying at No. 2. The hip-hop group led the field with “I Gotta Feeling,” whose eight-week reign directly followed a 13-week run by “Boom Boom Pow,” both tracks from its chart-topping album “The E.N.D.” The one-two punch last week broke Usher’s record from 2004, when “Yeah!” and “Burn” were No. 1 for a total of 19 consecutive weeks. Cyrus’ “Party In the U.S.A.” followed at No. 2, a week after debuting at that spot. The track comes from Cyrus’ Walmart exclusive CD “The Time of our Lives,” due August 31. “Down,” by Jay Sean featuring Lil Wayne, jumped four places to No. 3, Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” held at No. 4, while Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West’s “Run This Town” fell two to No. 5. Malaysia’s government has barred Muslims from a concert by U.S. hip-hop stars the Black Eyed Peas next month because the event is organized by Irish beer giant Guinness, an official said Thursday. The prohibition comes amid a clampdown on alcohol consumption among Malaysia’s Muslim majority. A Muslim woman who drank beer in public was sentenced to caning by an Islamic court last month, though authorities this week agreed to review the penalty. Officials also recently curbed retail sales of liquor in a central state. In family and personal matters, Muslims in Malaysia are governed by Shariah or Islamic law, which forbids the consumption of alcohol. The Black Eyed Peas will perform at a theme park near Kuala Lumpur on Sept. 25 as part of worldwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of Guinness’ flagship brewery in Dublin. Malaysia’s largest city is one of five places hosting Guinness’ concerts. The Malaysian show’s official Web site said “the party is only open to non-Muslims aged 18 years and above.” Previous major pop concerts in Malaysia, including one by the Black Eyed Peas in 2007, have always been open to Muslims. The Black Eyed Peas appear determined to make their summer smash “I’ve Got a Feeling” the Most Ubiquitous Song in TV Marketing. Ever. First, CBS licensed the track to tout its fall lineup. Ads began popping up in June with the song playing over scenes from new and returning Eye series. Around the same time, the Peas began popping up in ads for Target. Target got both the rights to the song and actual video of the Peas pimping for the store. Now, here comes the O. Oprah Winfrey Friday used her Twitter feed to announce that the season 24 promo campaign for her daytime show will feature a remixed version of… “I Gotta Feeling.” The Peas have even tweaked the lyrics to their hit to make the song more Oprah-specific. “Twenty-fourth season, like oh my God,” Will.I.Am now sings. “Stay on that sofa! Keep watchin’…O!” Team Oprah has chosen to make the YouTube video of the promo non-embeddable, so we can’t include it below. But you can check it out here. “Oprah” begins its 24th season Sept. 14 with a Whitney Houston one-on-one. [Source] |

Friday was a good, good night at Rain nightclub. The Palms hotspot made a last-minute announcement yesterday and said Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas would perform at the club that night. The announcement was made just before 5 p.m., around five hours before the club was set to open. Later that night, partiers got more than they bargained for when two of Will.i.am’s three Black Eyed Peas bandmates joined him onstage. Will.i.am, whose real name is William James Adams, Jr., made his way to the DJ booth just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning following a shortened set by Friday night resident DJ AM. The hip-hop superstar played a handful of mash-ups for partiers before bandmates Taboo Nawasha and apl.de.ap surprised the audience and joined him onstage. Read full article. |
